1. Our commitment to accessibility
Oliver McGowan Academy (OMA) is committed to making its website, training information and learner-administration processes accessible and usable by as many people as reasonably possible.
We aim to identify and reduce barriers that may prevent people with disabilities or access requirements from using our website, understanding course information, completing administrative processes or participating in training.
We recognise that accessibility includes both digital access and arrangements to support learners attending classroom and in-person training.
We aim to use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as our accessibility benchmark. We do not claim full compliance unless this has been established through appropriate testing.
2. Scope of this statement
This statement relates primarily to the OMA website and, where applicable, the digital information and processes we manage in connection with our training services.
It also explains how learners can request assistance with:
- Finding and understanding course information.
- Accessing booking information and relevant forms.
- Using digital communications and learner-administration processes.
- Uploading ELFH completion certificates where required.
- Understanding course prerequisites and training arrangements.
- Participating in classroom and in-person training.
3. Accessibility measures we aim to support
We aim to make our website and digital content usable by people who may rely on assistive technology or alternative ways of accessing information.
Our accessibility objectives include:
- Clear structure: Meaningful headings, descriptive page titles and logical content order.
- Keyboard access: Navigation and interactive controls usable by keyboard wherever reasonably possible.
- Readable content: Clear language, readable text and understandable instructions.
- Contrast and visibility: Sufficient contrast between text, controls and backgrounds.
- Text alternatives: Appropriate alternative text for meaningful images.
- Forms and errors: Clear labels, instructions and helpful error messages.
- Responsive design: Support for access on desktop computers, tablets and mobile devices.
- Assistive technology: Support for commonly used screen readers, browser accessibility features and other assistive tools.
- Accessible documents: Accessible document formats where reasonably practicable, or alternatives where a document presents a barrier.
- Accessible communication: A way to contact us about access needs and request assistance.
These are our accessibility objectives; they do not themselves confirm that every page or feature has been tested or meets the relevant standard.
4. Training and reasonable adjustments
We recognise that learners may have different access requirements. Where reasonable and practicable, we will consider requests for adjustments to support participation in training.
Depending on the course and circumstances, this may include discussing communication preferences, accessible information, practical arrangements or other appropriate support.
Learners should contact us as early as possible before the course so we can consider what arrangements may be appropriate.
Any adjustment is subject to the nature of the training, relevant learning outcomes, applicable training requirements and our legal obligations. We will consider requests individually and will not assume that all learners require the same support.
You do not need to provide detailed medical information merely to report a website accessibility problem. If particular information is needed to assess an adjustment, we will seek only information reasonably necessary for that purpose.
5. ELFH and external learning services
For relevant Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training, learners must complete the applicable official e-learning prerequisite through the NHS England e-Learning for Healthcare (ELFH) service.
ELFH is an external service and is not operated by OMA. Its website, learning platform, accessibility features and support arrangements are managed under its own arrangements. We cannot guarantee the accessibility or availability of external websites or systems.
Where OMA requires a learner to upload an ELFH completion certificate, we will consider reasonable assistance with the upload or an alternative way of supplying the required document where appropriate and practicable.
If you experience an accessibility barrier on ELFH itself, you may need to contact the ELFH service directly. You can also tell OMA if the issue affects your ability to complete the prerequisite or prepare for training, so we can consider what support is possible within our role.
6. Known limitations
We do not represent that every page, document, form, third-party service or external integration has been independently audited against WCAG 2.2 AA.
Potential barriers may arise from:
- Older documents or downloadable files.
- Third-party plugins or embedded content.
- External booking, payment or learning services.
- Forms or interactive features that have not been fully tested.
- Content supplied by external organisations.
Where an accessibility problem is identified, we will assess it and take reasonable steps to address it or provide a suitable alternative where possible.
7. Reporting an accessibility problem
If you encounter a problem accessing our website, course information, forms or learner-administration processes, please contact us.
When reporting a problem, it is helpful to tell us:
- Which page or service you were trying to use.
- What you were trying to do.
- What happened and why it created a barrier.
- If relevant, which browser, device or assistive technology you were using.
- Whether you would prefer an alternative format or another way to complete the task.
Please do not send unnecessary medical or other sensitive personal information when reporting a website issue.
We will review the information and aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe. If we cannot immediately resolve the issue, we will consider whether an alternative means of accessing the information or completing the task is available.

9. Monitoring and review
We will review this statement at least annually and sooner where significant changes are made to the website, training services or digital systems.
Where practicable, accessibility checks should include keyboard navigation, page structure, contrast, forms, document accessibility, mobile presentation and relevant third-party integrations.
We will use feedback from learners and website users to help identify barriers and prioritise improvements.
